Did you know that your window treatments can COMPLETELY change how you feel in your space?
It’s true! Even though window treatments are just one of many features in a room, they have huge impact. How?
Treatments take up significant visual area
They add style, texture, color, and interest
They can change your perception of a space's dimensions
Here are two of our favorite window treatments for making the most of your space…
Using Shades to Add Texture, Color & Style
In this bedroom, the bold color and pattern of these Roman shades bring playfulness to an otherwise calm and airy bedroom. However, choosing a different pattern in its place would have completely shifted the feel of the room...
...a treatment that played up the gold of the picture frames could have created glamour
...a pattern with the same seaside, turquoise shade as the bedside lamp could have evoked a beach-y vibe
...and so on!
Because this room has big, beautiful windows, the Roman shades play a big, beautiful part... but this isn't always the case!
Here, Roman shades play a more subtle role in this kitchen's narrative. You can see that the kitchen's neutral palette is played up with several bright, colorful touches.
The Roman shades bring all these colors together, but the pattern isn't too eye-grabbing. By keeping the treatments light-colored and subtle, the kitchen still feels open and airy... and the colors on the island, countertop, and shelves still pop!
Pro Tip: Roman shades come in cordless options — perfect for households with little ones!
Using Side Panels to Make Your Space Feel Larger
This living room is a classic example of side panels accentuating the true star of the space: gorgeous two-story, floor-to-ceiling windows.
Side panels draw the eyes up and down and have an elongating effect on spaces, especially ones with tall windows. By contrast, imagine shutters or roman shades in this space… can you picture the compressing effect they would have on the height?
Here’s another example...
Nearly everything in this room creates vertical lines, from the side panels to the candlesticks, from the rods of the headboard to the lines of the ruffled bedskirt. Here, you can see that Roman shades would fight against the upward flow of the rest of the room.
Instead, side panels contribute to this upward movement, creating height and helping this lovely bedroom feel even more spacious.
Pro Tip: Adding blackout lining can help stop drafts, mute outdoor sounds, and block harsh sun!
From style to spatial perception, window treatments have a LOT of impact on your space. And these are just two of many possible styles... stay tuned for more to come!
